*Would you build a house without first creating a solid foundation?* 🤷‍♀️🏠

You could but it probably wouldn't last very long. The first sign of stress from a bad storm or an earthquake and it might fall over.

Same can be said of New Year resolutions. Resolving to do something without first creating a solid foundation can lead to things falling over. The foundation of change is our beliefs. What we believe about ourselves and the world underpins how we think, feel and act. When we address the beliefs that are holding us back from achieving what we want in life, and replace them with new, more helpful beliefs, we create a solid foundation on which to create change.

How many times have you told yourself that this year is going to be my year! This year I'm going to lose weight, get a better job, get out of debt, make more time for me, have a better work/life balance? How many times have you started off a new year with a hiss and roar, determined that this year is going to be your year! You might have a couple of weeks even months where it's all going great, and then something happens that creates stress and you start to slip back to the old way of doing things.

If you have unhelpful beliefs, e.g. that you're not good enough, you don't deserve it or you're not worthy, then change can't be sustainable. At the first sign of stress, the walls will start to crumble. When you address those beliefs, then real, sustainable, long-term change is possible. That's the foundation that will support whatever it is you want to build.
